Duties Description A Supervising Carpenter acts as a working supervisor directing skilled and semi-skilled employees. The incumbent must have knowledge of the carpentry trade and show the ability to plan, layout and complete various carpentry work. Will be responsible for setting schedules, ordering supplies and overseeing all phases of a construction project. Good verbal communication skills and coordination skills are vital in getting plans and design specifications assigned to appropriate staff. Must be able to provide hands on support while providing direction and control during all phases of the project. Must keep written records of work performed and materials used. Will be required to read and comprehend blueprints and review concerns with Central Office engineering staff.
Minimum Qualifications One year of experience as a skilled journey-level carpenter subsequent to the completion of apprenticeship or equivalent training and experience.
Must possess a valid New York State driver's license.
Additional Comments Must be able to negotiate difficult terrain.
Must be able to work in remote areas.
Must be able to work in adverse weather conditions.
Travel may be required.
Overtime may be required.
Weekends and holidays may be required.
Must be available for emergency response.
Must be available to respond to after-hours emergencies.
Must be able to lift and move objects up to 50 pounds.

For new State employees appointed to graded positions, the annual salary is the hiring rate (beginning of the Salary Range) of the position. Promotion salaries are calculated by the NYS Office of the State Comptroller in accordance with NYS Civil Service Law, OSC Payroll rules and regulations and negotiated union contracts.
