Duties Description Will be required to operate a variety of self-propelled heavy equipment such as cars, trucks, construction equipment and riding mowers; may operate non-self-propelled machines; must follow Vehicle and Traffic Law as it applies to the safe and legal operation of assigned equipment; perform routine repair and maintenance work needed for equipment; use and operate a variety of hand and power tools; operate assigned machine in a safe and effective manner; understand and follow simple oral and written instructions; perform routine repairs and maintenance on equipment; perform medium to heavy physical labor based on priorities set by others and the abilities of individual crew members; orally instruct crew members in the activities and tasks to be performed and answer questions concerning work procedures; provide and explain simple written guidelines for work if they are available; personally observe work in progress and that which is completed to ensure adherence to instructions, guidelines, and schedules; keep written records of work performed and materials and labor used.
Minimum Qualifications One year of service as a Facility Operations Assistant 1 or Motor Vehicle Operator; OR, two years of full-time, verifiable experience in custodial, grounds, or maintenance operation or assisting in a journey-level trade. Experience in chainsaw operation preferred. Must have and maintain a valid New York State driver's license.
Additional Comments This is a hourly appointment currently funded through 3/31/2026, with a likelihood of continuing beyond that date. Program needs and funding will determine actual termination date.
Must be able to negotiate difficult terrain.
Must be able to work in remote areas.
Must be able to work in adverse weather conditions.
Must be able to lift and move objects up to 50 pounds.
